How we handle your personal data

This Privacy Policy explains what information AstraReels may collect, why we collect it, and how you can exercise your rights under Australian law.

Effective date: March 2026 · Jurisdiction: Australia

AstraReels (“we”, “us”) operates the website at astrareels.com as an independent educational analytics portal for adults. We are committed to protecting your privacy in line with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) (“the Act”) and the Australian Privacy Principles (“APPs”) contained in Schedule 1 of the Act.

Who this policy covers

This policy applies to visitors and readers of our public website who are in Australia or who interact with our Australian-facing content. If you access the site from overseas, local laws may also apply; this document focuses on our obligations under the Act.

What personal information we collect

“Personal information” has the meaning given in the Act: information or an opinion about an identified individual, or an individual who is reasonably identifiable, whether true or not and whether recorded in material form or not.

Depending on how you use the site, we may collect or hold:

  • Technical and usage data: such as IP address, general location derived from IP (e.g. country or region), browser type, device type, operating system, referring URL, pages viewed, time on page and approximate timestamps. This is often collected automatically when you load pages or assets.
  • Communications you send us: if you email us (for example at [email protected]), we will hold the content of your message, your email address, any attachments and metadata needed to respond.
  • Cookies and similar technologies: small files or storage on your device that help the site function, remember preferences or support aggregated analytics. See our Cookie Policy for detail.

We do not intentionally collect sensitive information (such as health information) through standard browsing. If you voluntarily include sensitive information in an email, we will only use it for the purpose of responding to you unless a permitted exception under the Act applies.

How we collect personal information

We collect personal information:

  • directly from you when you contact us;
  • automatically through server logs, analytics tools and cookies when you use the website;
  • from third-party services that embed or deliver content (for example, font providers), where those providers process data under their own policies.

Where it is lawful and practical, we will collect personal information only from you. Where we collect it from someone else, we will take reasonable steps under APP 3 to notify you or ensure you are aware of the collection.

Why we use personal information

We use personal information only where we have a lawful basis under the APPs, typically because:

  • it is reasonably necessary for our functions and activities (operating and improving the site, understanding readership in aggregate, maintaining security);
  • you would reasonably expect us to use or disclose it for that purpose;
  • we have your consent, where consent is required;
  • we are required or authorised by law.

We do not sell your personal information as a commodity. We do not use your data to operate gambling products or to target vulnerable individuals with wagering promotions.

Cookies and analytics

We may use cookies and similar technologies for essential site operation, optional analytics (to understand traffic volumes, popular pages and technical errors in aggregate) and, where applicable, to remember preferences such as accessibility choices.

Analytics may involve third-party services that receive technical data (such as truncated IP addresses or device identifiers) subject to their own privacy policies. We configure analytics, where possible, to reduce identifiability and to focus on aggregated reporting. See Cookie Policy for types of cookies and how to manage them.

Third-party services

Our pages may load resources from third parties — for example, Google Fonts for typography. Those providers may log requests (including IP address and User-Agent) in accordance with their policies. We choose providers where reasonable to minimise data collection, but we do not control their infrastructure.

If we link to external sites (such as Gambling Help Online or BetStop), their privacy practices govern information you provide to them.

Disclosure of personal information

We may disclose personal information to:

  • service providers who assist us with hosting, security, email delivery or analytics, under confidentiality and processing terms consistent with the APPs;
  • law enforcement, regulators or courts where required or authorised by Australian law;
  • professional advisers (lawyers, accountants) where necessary to obtain advice.

We do not disclose your personal information to overseas recipients unless the Act permits us to do so (for example, with your consent or after taking reasonable steps to ensure the overseas recipient complies with the APPs). Many analytics and font CDNs may process data outside Australia; where that occurs, we rely on contractual safeguards and provider transparency pages where available.

Data retention and security

We retain personal information only for as long as needed for the purposes for which it was collected, including to meet legal, accounting or reporting requirements. Server and analytics logs are typically retained for a limited rolling period unless we need to preserve them for security investigations or disputes.

We implement reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect personal information from misuse, interference, loss, unauthorised access, modification or disclosure. No online transmission is completely secure; please use discretion when emailing sensitive material.

Your rights

Under the Act and APPs you may have the right to:

  • request access to personal information we hold about you (APP 12);
  • request correction of personal information that is inaccurate, out of date, incomplete, irrelevant or misleading (APP 13);
  • make a complaint about our handling of your personal information (see below).

We will respond to access and correction requests within a reasonable period and in the manner required by the Act. In some cases, we may refuse access where an exception applies; if so, we will explain the reason.

You may unsubscribe from any optional communications we operate (if any) using the instructions in those messages.

Notifiable data breaches

If we become aware of eligible data breaches under the Notifiable Data Breaches scheme, we will assess the incident and, where required, notify affected individuals and the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) in accordance with the Act.

Children and young people

AstraReels content is directed at adults aged 18 and over. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children for marketing or profiling. If you believe a minor has provided us personal information, contact us and we will take reasonable steps to delete it.

Contact for privacy enquiries

For privacy questions, access or correction requests, or complaints about how we handle personal information, email [email protected] with “Privacy” in the subject line.

If you are not satisfied with our response, you may lodge a complaint with the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner: oaic.gov.au.

Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The effective date at the top will change when we do. Material changes will be highlighted on the site where practical. Continued use of the site after changes constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy, subject to your rights under the Act.
